How COVID-19 Can Spread in a Community – Video


This video explains how COVID-19 can spread in a community using an example featured in an April 2020 CDC MMWR. Investigation of COVID-19 cases in Chicago identified a cluster of 16 confirmed or probably cases, including three deaths, likely resulting from one introduction. Extended family gatherings, including a funeral and birthday party, likely facilitated transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in this cluster.

In the United States, there have been 1,324,488 confirmed cases of COVID-19 detected through U.S. public health surveillance systems in 50 states and the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Marianas Islands, and U.S. Virgin Islands. 

CDC provides updated U.S. case information online daily.

CDC is working across the Department of Health and Human Services and across the U.S. government in the public health response to COVID-19.
